Mumbai: Environmental activist Rohit Joshi has written to government officials, illustrating the blatant compliance with the Bombay High Court, which openly prohibits the production, use and sink of the plaster of Paris (Bob) statues.
Prior to the ongoing Magi Ganesh festival, HC municipalities operated organizations to prevent Bob Ganesh statues from drowning in natural waters such as lakes and navy. However, Joshi accused these orders of ignoring, resulting in several pop statues immersed in the banned areas.
Joshi is a petitioner demanding the severe implementation of the Central Pollution Control Board (CBCP) guidelines. In a letter to the Chief Secretary of Maharashtra, District Collectors and Municipal Commissioners, Joshi said, “Despite the court’s order, many housing and Sarvajanik Ganesh Zones have installed pop statues throughout Maharashtra. Sinking into natural water bodies, including lakes, creeks and sea shore. This is a direct violation of the court order and the risk of severe environmental risk. ”
Joshi said that if the authorities fail to respond to his letter with the details of the activities taken in accordance with the HC directions, he would file a contempt of petition against the authorities who failed to comply with HC orders.
Meanwhile, Joshi said he would send a notification to the Raigad district collector asking for the steps taken to close down the Pop Statues Production Division in the district. “There are maximum production plants for pop statues in the Ben region. If the production stops, sales and use will stand automatically. However, the authorities are not serious about taking action at the ground level. As a petitioner, I am going to send a notification to the Raigad Collector by taking steps to reduce the production of pop statues in the pen, ”Joshi said.
