Jiangxi Open: Diana Shnaider Advances to Last 8; Marie Bouzkova Stays Strong

Diana Shnaider secured a spot in the Jiangxi Open quarter-finals after her opponent, Vera Zvonareva, retired mid-match while Shnaider was leading 6-3, 0-1 due to illness. This marks Shnaider’s second quarter-final appearance in China, with her previous one at the Ningbo Open, where she reached her first career finale but lost to Ons Jabeur. Zvonareva also reached the quarters in Ningbo before exiting at Jabeur’s hands.

In the upcoming Jiangxi Open match, Shnaider, ranked 72nd, will face Nao Hibino, who defeated Kimberly Birrell 6-3, 7-5 in an hour and 45 minutes, saving two of four break points. Hibino won 60% of return points on her opponent’s second serve. This is Hibino’s second quarter-final appearance in a WTA tournament this year, following her quarter-final run at the Prague Open in July.

Marie Bouzkova, the third seed, overcame Amina Anshba at the Jiangxi Open with a score of 7-5, 6-0. She will now face Camila Osorio, who defeated the eighth seed, Sara Sorribes Tormo, 6-4, 7-5 in their second-round match, despite Sorribes Tormo’s missed opportunity to serve for the second set. Osorio secured the win with a break in the 11th game of the set.
