Tennis courts in the Bronx renamed and refurbished in honor of Venus Williams

The revamped courts feature a green-and-pink playing surface adorned with silhouettes of Venus herself, along with a few of Lacoste’s familiar crocodiles.

Venus Williams Honored with ‘The Venus Williams Tennis Court’ in the Bronx”

“Following her recognition at the US Open for advocating equal prize money, Venus Williams has received further appreciation in the Bronx. The future tennis stars of tomorrow will now have the opportunity to practice at ‘The Venus Williams Tennis Court,’ recently unveiled by Lacoste in collaboration with the City Parks Foundation. These newly refurbished courts, located in St. Mary’s Park in Mott Haven, pay tribute to the seven-time Grand Slam champion. The courts feature a vibrant green-and-pink playing surface adorned with silhouettes of Venus Williams and Lacoste’s iconic crocodiles.”

In an Instagram post, Venus Williams expressed her commitment to connecting with the younger generation, stating, “Being close to the young generation is significant to me. Sports have the ability to transform lives, and I hope that these two courts will inspire children to engage in more tennis.”

The establishment of The Venus Williams Tennis Court is a result of Lacoste’s enduring collaboration with the City Parks Foundation (CPF), which offers complimentary activities, including tennis instruction, in the public parks of New York City. In the Bronx, CPF is dedicated to providing lasting access to tennis through a program that combines sports and educational elements.

Venus Williams, in an interview with the Bronx Times, emphasized the significance of these courts at St. Mary’s Park, which resemble the courts she herself grew up playing tennis on while nurturing her aspirations.

“I am delighted that people of all ages will have the opportunity to experience this sport,” Venus said.

Venus has been serving as a global brand ambassador for Lacoste since the previous year, while also actively competing in her own clothing brand, Eleven. In her recent match at the US Open, the 43-year-old athlete faced Greet Minnen, resulting in a 6-1, 6-1 outcome.
