Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic are just one of the winnings since the founding of the juicy quarterfinal in Melbourne after the couple went to the fourth round on Friday.
This time it was a turn of Alcaraza to drop the file, overcoming the loss of the third file to defeat Nun Borgesa 6-2 6-4 6-7 (3) 6-2.
Djokovic then created a rock performance to send 24. seeds Tomas Machac 6-1 6-4 6-4 to set up the fourth round with another Czech Republic, 24 Semen Jiri Lehecka.
The second seed of Sascha Zverev continued his march to the second week and passed in direct sets against Jacob Fearnley. He will face Ugo Humbert after Arthur Fils left their match when there were two sets down to one.
Jack Draper and Aleksandar Vukic played their third five setter tournament in the night match to Rod Laver, while the British came out on top of the fifth Spekle.

Alcaraz Blunders but defeats Borges
![Alcaraz in 2025](https://www.perfect-tennis.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/alcaraz-ao-2025.jpg)
I like what I saw so far from Carlos Alcaraz, and in Friday he continued his impressive run on the Australian Open and moved to the last sixteen with 6-2, 6-4, 6-7 (3), 6- 2 victory over Nuno Borges.
Alcaraz set the tone almost with a break of the opening game against the world no. 33 Borges. And with his improved service he was dominant and lost only six points in each of the first two sets.
Borges, who made the fourth round in Melbourne last year, fought in the third set and went through the marathon holding to 4-3, where he saved two points of turning.
The Portuguese then missed the return to the set point value by 5-6, 30/40, but took control of Tiebreak, forcing the fourth set.
One chink in the armor of Alcaraz is that it can switch to a low-cent tennis mode (or highlight the desire for the target), which can lead to a container of unforced errors, and it happened in Breaker when he lost four direct points out of 2- 2.
Alcaraz quickly regained control in the fourth, broke Borges and secured two love to start the kit before traveling.
The 50 unforced errors of Carlos is quite high, so it’s the state to be watched. This year is played with a slightly heavier rocket (guidance added to the hoop, an interesting step given that he had previously had problems with the elbow), which could also contribute.
I missed Rod Laver. I am really, really glad I can play here again. I tried to show my best tennis here. For me, it was a pleasure every time I went to this court … The last time I played here, I lost (Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinal 2024), so I wanted to play here and win another victory here Rod Laver. I’m glad to see the whole crowd watching my matches. It is just a privilege to feel this love here in Australia, in the second part of the world. I try to play other tennis, some different kinds of shots. This is what pleases me that I play tennis that makes me smile on the pitch and helps me show me really good tennis – and I also try to entertain people, so they are happy. Alcaraz for his victory.
Zverev foil fearnley

Sascha Zverev has a little reputation for the ejection of sets in the early rounds of the Grand Slams, but started flawlessly in Melbourne and packed his third consecutive direct victory with a victory 6-3, 6-4, 6-4. Jacob Fearnley from the UK.
The only fluctuation of his record was his first loss of the maid in the tournament, probably caused by complex weather conditions and a solid return game Fearnley. Nevertheless, it had a little difference when he fell falling away every time, and kept his pace to win in straight sets.
Based on what I have seen, if they meet, Zverev will be a real handful for Alcaraza. Usually he is doing well, so I would like to see this match, but Djokovic could have something to say about it.
As for Fearnley, he played very well and is now 77. In the world. He has a sharp return and made rapid progress from where he was a year ago.
Someone as Zverev, however, is too experienced and has a higher basic level, allowing him to pull away at key moments and do work.
I think my opponent did a great job today at maximizing. He was very aggressive and returned quite well. I am satisfied with the direct win. Much more complex playing conditions (compared to previous rounds). In the first few matches there were perfect conditions, no wind at all. It was obviously very different today. Jacob is an incredible player, went through all stages – he went to the university, played futures, challenges – and now he plays on the big scene. I have a huge respect. It will improve in the coming years. Zverev for his winning
Djokovic is dominated by Machac

In my previous recapitulation, I said that Alejandro Davidovich Fokina loves five setv. On Friday he continued the heroism of the comeback and gathered from two sets to defeat Czech Jakub MenSik 3-6, 4-6, 7-6 (7), 6-4, 6-2, while saving two wrestling points along the road.
The victory was sent by Davidovich Fokin to the fourth round of the Australian Open for the first time to face American Tommy Paul, who defeated Robert Carballes Baen 7-6 (0), 6-2, 6-0.
Jack Draper directed his inner Adrian Mannarino in a night match and won his third five-time match in Melbourne in Melbourne’s defeat Aleksandar Vukic 6-4 2-6 5-7 7-6 (5) 7-6 (10-8 (10-8) .
Draper has had questions about his stamina in the last two seasons, but winning three five -year sets in a row is not an average act and I think he was a worthy winner in this nearby meeting.
The Brit was down two sets for one, but he recovered and then shaken to give up 3-1 lines (and interrupting points for a double break) to win the decisive Tiebreak by playing brave tennis.
Draper’s reward is the fourth match against Carlos Alcaraz, who usually plays well. After three five seconds, however, I think it is even more uphill task.
