An unidentified Saudi Arabian club is reportedly preparing to extend a jaw-dropping offer of €50 million per year to secure the services of AS Roma’s head coach, Jose Mourinho.

This revelation comes from Nicolo Schira, a reputable source, who discloses that the Saudi club is determined to bring Mourinho on board as their new coach at the conclusion of the current season. Their ambitious strategy involves shelling out an astounding €50 million annually, beginning in July 2024.

The prospect of Mourinho making a move to Saudi Arabia is gaining traction for a couple of compelling reasons. First and foremost, Mourinho himself has recently expressed his intention to coach in Saudi Arabia, confidently stating, “I will go to Saudi Arabia in some free time, but I am convinced that I will work there.”

This statement was made during an interview with MBC Egypt TV channel, as reported by Reuters. He emphasized his commitment to Roma but acknowledged his future involvement in Saudi football.

Furthermore, Mourinho’s current contract with AS Roma is set to expire at the close of the season. The likelihood of a contract extension appears bleak, given the club’s dismal performance, marking the worst start to a season in his storied career as well as Roma’s poorest start in the three-points-for-a-win era of Serie A.

With only three wins in their opening seven Serie A matches, AS Roma currently languishes in 10th place in the league standings.

As speculation intensifies, Antonio Conte emerges as the bookmakers’ favorite to succeed Mourinho when the season concludes. Some sectors of the Italian media even consider the possibility of Conte taking over before the season’s end, reflecting the mounting pressure on Mourinho if he fails to rejuvenate Roma’s form.

Nevertheless, Mourinho continues to enjoy popularity among Roma’s devoted fan base, thanks to his remarkable achievements that include clinching back-to-back European finals, notably winning the UEFA Conference League in 2022 and finishing as runners-up to Sevilla in the Europa League in 2023, decided by a penalty shootout.
