Barcelona's Target Set to Extend Contract with Current Club in Upcoming Deal

Jude Bellingham emphasized the allure of clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona. While Barcelona, the reigning La Liga champions and five-time Champions League winners, remains a coveted destination, it’s not uncommon for many players linked to the club to never don the Blaugrana colors.

Recently, there have been reports linking Barcelona to the Japanese sensation, Kaoru Mitoma. Football insider Fabrizio Romano acknowledged the interest but noted that no concrete offers have been made.

“I’ve heard discussions about Barcelona making Kaoru Mitoma a top target for 2024. However, as of now, I’m not aware of any substantial developments.

Mitoma is attracting interest from various European clubs, but there’s nothing substantial with any club at this stage.”

“Brighton, on the other hand, is making progress in contract negotiations with Mitoma, and an agreement is expected soon.”

It appears that Kaoru Mitoma is on the verge of signing a new deal with Brighton in the coming weeks. Japan has emerged as a talent hub in the last decade, with Mitoma being one of the standout prospects from the J-League.

Mitoma’s journey began when he joined Brighton in a £3 million deal from Kawasaki Frontale in 2021. Since then, he has notched up an impressive record of 13 goals and 12 assists in 52 games.

He’s adapted well to the demands of Premier League football and even secured the Premier League Goal of the Month award for his strike against Wolverhampton Wanderers in August, marking a historic achievement as the first Japanese player to win the accolade.

His performances have piqued the interest of clubs across Europe. While a new contract doesn’t preclude a potential transfer, it often means a higher price tag.

Given Barcelona’s ongoing financial challenges and their relatively modest spending on permanent transfers this summer (less than €4 million), it’s plausible that they might be priced out of a move for Mitoma, who seems destined for a bright future.
