2023 World Rugby Launches Investigation into Allegations of Racist Insults by Mbonambi

World Rugby, the sport’s governing body, has announced an investigation into allegations made by England’s Tom Curry regarding the use of discriminatory language during the England-South Africa semi-final. In a press release, the organization stated that it would refrain from making any comments until the investigative procedure is concluded.

During the first half of the match, Tom Curry, a member of the England third row, reported that he had been subjected to a racial slur, described as ‘a white bitch,’ by South African hooker Bongi Mbonambi.

If these accusations are substantiated, Mbonambi may potentially face a minimum suspension of six matches, jeopardizing his participation in the World Cup final against New Zealand. This would present a significant setback for the Springboks, as Mbonambi is the sole professional hooker in the team.

Additionally, the South African Football Association has revealed the initiation of an internal investigation into the matter.
