India Dominates Women’s Hockey: 13-0 Win Over Hong Kong China in Asian Games 2023 Pool A

Deep Grace Ekka, Vandana Katariya, and Deepika each secured hat-tricks for the Indian women’s hockey squad. The team is now set to face the runner-up from Pool B in the upcoming semi-finals.

In the final Pool A match of the 2023 Asian Games women’s hockey tournament, the Indian women’s hockey team delivered a dominating performance, defeating Hong Kong China 13-0 at the Gongshu Canal Sports Park Stadium in Hangzhou, the People’s Republic of China, on Tuesday.

Vandana Katariya (2′, 16′, 48′), Deepika (4′, 52′, 54′), Monika (7′), Deep Grace Ekka (11′, 34′, 42′), Sangita Kumari (27′, 55′), and Navneet Kaur (58) all contributed to India’s resounding victory.

With this win, the Indian women’s hockey team secured the top position in Pool A, accumulating 10 points from four matches. The top two teams from each pool qualify for the semi-finals.

India is now set to face the runner-up from Pool B in the semi-finals on Thursday.

Before Tuesday’s match, India had drawn 1-1 with the Republic of Korea and had secured impressive wins against Singapore (13-0) and Malaysia (6-0) in the previous week.

From the very start of the match, the Indian women’s hockey team, ranked seventh in the women’s FIH rankings, launched an aggressive attack against Hong Kong China. Vandana Katariya opened the scoring within minutes. Before Hong Kong China could recover, Deepika, Monika, and Deep Grace Ekka added goals, taking the lead to 4-0 by the end of the first quarter.

India continued their momentum into the second quarter, with Vandana Katariya securing a field goal, making it 5-0. The team relentlessly pressured Hong Kong China’s defense and extended their lead to 6-0 with a goal by Sangita Kumari. Despite the efforts of Hong Kong China’s defense, the first half concluded with India leading 6-0.

After halftime, India maintained their pressure on Hong Kong China, with Sangita Kumari and Navneet Kaur adding to the team’s score in the final two quarters. Deep Grace Ekka, Vandana Katariya, and Deepika completed their hat-tricks, ensuring the Indian women’s hockey team continued their unbeaten streak at the 2023 Asian Games.
