The inaugural MotoGP race in India, known as the Grand Prix of India, is set to take place at the Buddh International Circuit from September 22 to September 24. Nevertheless, the event has encountered visa complications that are affecting the participation of two-wheeled motor racing enthusiasts. India is eagerly preparing to host its very first MotoGP race.

In the lead-up to India’s inaugural MotoGP race, the highly anticipated two-wheeled motorsport event has encountered visa complications affecting some riders and team officials. India is eagerly preparing to host its first-ever MotoGP, known as the Grand Prix of India, commencing from September 22. This marks a significant return of motorsport to India after Formula 1’s departure in 2013.

However, just three days before the scheduled practice sessions, several riders and team officials are still awaiting their visas to travel to India. According to a PTI report, sources within Repsol Honda have confirmed that riders Joan Mir and six-time MotoGP champion Marc Marquez have yet to arrive in India due to visa delays.

Marquez personally confirmed the visa delay on social media, sharing, “Flight delayed due to a lack of visa for India, so we’re going to pedal for a little while,” along with an Instagram story featuring himself.

Both Marquez and Mir had planned to visit the Honda India factory in Manesar on Wednesday. However, sources indicate that the visit has been canceled for now due to the riders’ visa issues. As one source stated, “The riders have not yet reached India due to visa problems, so there was no choice but to cancel tomorrow’s event,” as reported by PTI.

The Grand Prix of India serves as the 13th round in the 2023 MotoGP season. The recent winner, Jorge Martín, currently stands in second place in the championship standings. Meanwhile, Italian rider Francesco Bagnaia leads the 2023 season. The race will unfold at the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida, spanning from September 22 to September 24. Practice sessions are scheduled for Friday, with qualifying and the sprint race set for Saturday, followed by the main race on Sunday.
