Khamzat Chimaev’s much-anticipated octagon return is imminent, following a hiatus after his impressive win over Kevin Holland at UFC 279. Originally set to face Nate Diaz, a twist of fate led to him squaring off against Holland due to Chimaev’s substantial 7.5-pound weight miss.

In the meantime, Diaz fought Tony Ferguson, securing a submission victory in the final bout of his UFC contract.

Chimaev’s weight hiccup garnered extensive media attention, fueling speculation about his move to the middleweight division, possibly influenced by the UFC. Chimaev, however, hinted at a different narrative during a recent pre-fight media session, suggesting that the weight miss wasn’t solely his decision, implying potential UFC involvement in orchestrating the incident. His cryptic statement hints at a bombshell accusation.

In his own words at the UFC 294 media event, Khamzat Chimaev stated, “Everyone speaks about [why] I didn’t make weight once in my life and there were some plans to do that that way. It’s not my plan, but I can’t say everything here.

Khamzat Chimaev Hints Usman Took UFC 294 Fight for Quick Cash

Leading up to his UFC 294 showdown with Kamaru Usman, Khamzat Chimaev raised the possibility that the former welterweight champion accepted the fight on short notice to capitalize on the “exceptional earnings” linked to battling him.

Chimaev disclosed that had Usman still held the welterweight title, he might have contemplated a move down in weight. He stressed that Usman’s unsuccessful bid to regain the title from Leon Edwards diminished his reputation in the division.

While Chimaev anticipates a competitive bout, he insinuated that financial incentives play a significant role in fighters’ choices, asserting that money can overshadow titles and legacies. During a pre-fight media session, Chimaev remarked:

“This guy is here for the money. There’s a lot of money involved when someone fights me. It’s on a different level. That’s why he’s here. Of course, he comes to win – everyone comes to a fight to win – but he already has an excuse and he’s getting paid. I believe that’s why he’s here.”

“Many people talk about their history, their belts, and all that stuff. But when you see the money on the table, millions… One day, everyone will forget about that, but the guy will have his money for his family. That’s why he’s here, I think.”
