SAN DIEGO – MMA Junkie was on-site for the official Bellator 300 fighter weigh-ins, where a former champion’s title hopes were dashed due to a weight miss.

The women’s flyweight champion, Liz Carmouche (19-7 MMA, 6-0 BMMA), is set to face her longtime teammate, friend, and former titleholder, Ilima-Lei Macfarlane (13-2 MMA, 12-2 BMMA). Carmouche was the first to step on the scale and weighed in at 124.8 pounds. However, when Macfarlane’s turn came, she registered 127.4 pounds. After removing her clothing, Macfarlane weighed in at 126.6 pounds with the use of a towel, but when she returned at the end of her allotted time, her weight had increased to 128.2 pounds. A Bellator official stated that her final weight was 126.6 pounds, but due to the miss, Macfarlane cannot win the title from Carmouche. The fight will proceed, and if Carmouche loses, the title will become vacant – a situation reminiscent of Carmouche’s past title fight in April against Deanna Bennett when Bennett missed weight.

Originally, Bellator 300 was scheduled to feature four title fights, but challenger Linton Vassell withdrew from his heavyweight title bout with Ryan Bader a week before the event, reducing the number to three title contests. Now, the women’s flyweight bout will no longer be for the title, leaving only two championship bouts on the main card. One of them features women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg (26-2 MMA, 5-0 BMMA) against Cat Zingano (14-4 MMA, 4-0 BMMA), both of whom weighed in at 144.6 pounds. The night’s final fight sees lightweight champion Usman Nurmagomedov (17-0 MMA, 6-0 BMMA) defending his title against former champion Brent Primus (12-3 MMA, 10-3 BMMA), with both fighters weighing in at 154.8 pounds with the aid of towels.

The weigh-ins occurred at the Bellator host hotel in San Diego, and the Pechanga Arena in San Diego will host Saturday’s event. The main card, which includes three title fights, will be televised on Showtime following preliminary fights on MMA Junkie.
