Sodiq Yusuff and Edson Barboza’s UFC Fight Night 230 Bout Ends in Hospital Visits for Both Fighters

In the main event at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas this past Saturday, Edson Barboza emerged victorious in a hard-fought featherweight battle against Sodiq Yusuff, which resulted in both fighters being hospitalized.

Although Yusuff (13-3 MMA, 6-2 UFC) came close to securing a win over Barboza (24-11 MMA, 18-11 UFC) less than a minute into the fight, it was Barboza who ultimately prevailed by unanimous decision after enduring a relentless assault. From his hospital bed, Yusuff released a statement, with Barboza receiving treatment right behind him.

Yusuff shared in a video on his YouTube channel, “It’s painful right now, but I know I’ll overcome it eventually. As I mentioned in the commentary after the fight, I was a good nail before I ever became a good hammer, and I truly mean that. I faced numerous obstacles before becoming the fighter you all see on TV. Due to that, I know I’ll return.”

He continued, “Everyone has their own battles and struggles. You all get to witness mine on TV. I made mistakes today, but the fight continues. That’s the essence of fighting. Whatever battles you face, I wish you the best. As for me, I have to accept my loss, but I’ll do it with my head held high and persist as a ‘good nail’ until I become a ‘hammer’ once again.”

Yusuff’s defeat put an end to his two-fight winning streak. Despite this setback, the 30-year-old has claimed victory in 8 of his last 10 fights.
