Dana White has outlined his plans to ensure Khamzat Chimaev maintains an active fighting schedule following UFC 294.

Chimaev, with an impressive record of 13-0 in MMA and 7-0 in the UFC, recently returned after a year-long hiatus to face Kamaru Usman in the middleweight co-main event at the Etihad Arena. Although Usman rallied in the later rounds, Chimaev secured a majority decision victory, especially after a dominant first round that earned him a 10-8 score.

The UFC’s CEO, Dana White, was greatly impressed by Chimaev’s performance and is eager to see him back in action sooner rather than later. White emphasized, “Khamzat goes in there and he’s fighting the greatest welterweight of all time – a very tough, crafty veteran. Khamzat was developed during the COVID era. The kid is unbelievably talented, and we need to keep him more active. That’s our goal.”

Chimaev’s lengthy absence was primarily attributed to travel complications, which prompted the Chechen fighter to relocate to the United Arab Emirates. Additionally, Chimaev believes he may have injured his right hand during the first round, affecting his grappling ability. White expressed optimism that this injury wouldn’t pose any roadblocks in booking Chimaev’s title shot against UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland, stating, “There have been issues in the past. Hopefully, there are no issues this time. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that his hand isn’t broken, and we can proceed with the title fight.”
