Jimmies Women’s Hockey Tops Colorado, Men Beat NIU

In the current season, the University of Jamestown’s men’s hockey team boasts 17 different goal scorers. Meanwhile, the women’s hockey team extended their winning streak to three games with a 4-2 victory over the University of Colorado at John L. Wilson Arena on Saturday, October 14.

Samantha Mueller of the Jimmies opened the scoring midway through the first period, giving her team a 1-0 lead. Kiran Vugteveen netted her sixth goal of the season, making it five goals in her last two games, extending their lead to 2-0. Crystal Wale added her third goal of the season in the second period, further increasing the Jimmies’ lead to 3-0. Although the Buffaloes managed to score one in the period, Jayden Baker quickly restored the Jimmies’ three-goal lead. Despite the Buffaloes’ lone goal in the third period, they couldn’t complete the comeback. The Jimmies outshot the Buffaloes 47-22 in the game.

The Jimmies will be back in action at 7 p.m. on Friday, October 20, when they face Concordia College.

In a separate event, the University of Jamestown’s men’s hockey team continued their offensive dominance with a resounding 13-0 victory over Northern Illinois University at the Huskies’ Canlan Sports on the same day.

The Jimmies, with a record of 5-2, took an early lead in the first period with Reid Wilson opening the scoring. They added two more goals in the period, taking a 3-0 lead into the second frame. The second period saw two more goals, one of which was contributed by Brad Fortin, making it 4-0. The team exploded in the third period, notching eight goals, including a hat trick by Fortin, his first in his career.

Over their last three games, the Jimmies have outscored their opponents 28-0. In this particular game, they outshot the Wolves 62-15.

The Jimmies will be taking the ice again at 7 p.m. on Friday, October 20, when they host Concordia College.
