In an impressive display of skill, senior golfer Oliver Lewis-Perkins, hailing from Lee University, secured victory at the prestigious Copperhead Championship held at the Copperhead Course in Innisbrook, FL. He achieved an extraordinary 11-under score, solidifying his standing as the tournament champion.

Perkins showcased his mastery of the game by carding remarkable rounds of 67, 69, and 66, which ultimately earned him his inaugural collegiate title. His dominance was evident, with a remarkable seven-shot lead over the runner-up, Nico Lang, a graduate student from West Florida, who posted rounds of 68, 70, and 71 to finish at 4-under 209.

The final round witnessed a fierce battle between Perkins and Lang, as Perkins entered with a two-stroke lead at 6-under par, with Lang in close pursuit at 4-under par. However, Perkins sealed his triumphant performance in Florida with an awe-inspiring final round, which included an eagle on the demanding 607-yard par-5 No. 5 hole, coupled with three additional birdies.

In 2023, Perkins’s journey through 14 tournaments, spanning across his home country of England, culminated in this victory. Earlier in the year, he had achieved a third-place finish at the Kent Amateur Championship in June.

In the team competition, the squad representing Lee University, comprised of Noah Ross, Oliver Lewis-Perkins, Bennett McNabb, Trey Melvin, and George Cordall, displayed remarkable cohesion. They collectively shot 1-over 853, comprised of rounds of 282, 282, and 289. This score secured their victory by a narrow two-stroke margin over their competitors from West Florida.

The team’s journey to victory was marked by a substantial four-shot lead over the host team from West Florida heading into the final round. Both teams, in an unexpected twist, managed to mirror each other’s rounds by posting scores of 1-over 289. This minuscule difference proved to be the key factor as Lee University clinched the championship title.

Notably, Oklahoma Christian managed to achieve an outstanding feat by posting an under-par score of 1-under 281 on the final day, securing a third-place finish at 10-over 862. Coker University followed closely in fourth place at 12-over 864.
