Major championship golf is making a triumphant return to Columbus in 2026 as the U.S. Senior Open heads to Scioto Country Club. The anticipation is high, with the possibility of Tiger Woods joining the field.

The exact tournament dates are yet to be disclosed by the United States Golf Association.

Scioto Country Club previously hosted the Senior Open in 2016, where Gene Sauers secured victory by a single stroke, finishing 3-under for the event with three consecutive pars in the final round.

This Donald Ross-designed course in Upper Arlington is set to welcome the 2036 U.S. Amateur, a return after its last hosting in 1968. The 1926 U.S. Open, won by Bobby Jones, remains the other notable national tournament held at Scioto.

Tiger Woods, turning 50 on December 30, 2025, will meet the minimum age requirement for the U.S. Senior Open, potentially adding star power to the event. Woods has a storied history in central Ohio, boasting five Memorial Tournament wins and eight victories at Firestone Country Club in Akron.

Sauers’ 2016 triumph, his first on the Champions Tour, marked a heartwarming comeback story for the then-53-year-old Georgian. Overcoming Stevens-Johnson syndrome, a rare and life-threatening illness, he was away from golf for seven years.
