Manteca is on the verge of entering a 10-year contract with Central Golf Company, led by Jeff DeBenedetti, to oversee operations at their 18-hole municipal golf course. The proposal, featuring options for two additional 5-year extensions, will be presented to the City Council at their meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. tonight at the Civic Center on 1001 W. Center St.

DeBenedetti’s leadership, coupled with the city’s proactive approach to increasing green fees, has shielded Manteca from the issues that have affected neighboring municipal golf courses. These courses have grappled with declining rounds played and revenue.

According to Kevin Fant, the Director of Public Works, “Since CGC has taken over the Pro Shop operations, total rounds of golf played and overall revenue have increased, operational processes, along with customer service at the course, have greatly improved.”

The extended contract terms offer Manteca the potential for additional annual revenue of $50,000 to $60,000 if annual rounds and usage remain steady.

The contract’s key details include

  • Green fee revenue: The city receives 90% of annual greens fee/pass revenues on the first $1,300,000 and 80% for anything over $1,300,000.
  • Cart rental revenue: The city receives 15% of annual golf cart rental fees on the first $475,000 and 20% for anything over $475,000.
  • Driving range revenue: The city receives 10% of annual Driving Range fees on the first $125,000 and 20% on anything over $125,000.
  • Merchandise & golf lesson revenue: The city receives 5% of annual revenues for all golf merchandise & lessons sold.
  • Other revenue: The city receives 10% of annual revenues for all other golf pro shop related items that charge a fee (such as locker fees, equipment rentals, and other items for which fees are collected).
