SAN FRANCISCO – Alyssa Nakken, known for being the first woman to coach on the field during a major league game when she manned first base for San Francisco in April 2022, has been interviewed for the Giants’ managerial position.

President of Baseball Operations Farhan Zaidi confirmed Nakken’s participation in a first-round interview last week.

In August, Nakken’s husband, Robert, announced on social media that the coach is expecting their first child, a daughter, on February 9.

Zaidi has expressed his intention to appoint a new manager before the commencement of free agency, following the dismissal of Gabe Kapler with just three days remaining in the season. Kapler concluded his tenure with a record of 295-248 over three-plus seasons. Notably, the Giants clinched a franchise-record 107 victories in 2021, narrowly surpassing the 106-win Dodgers to claim the NL West title, before missing the playoffs in the last two seasons.

Aged 33, Nakken, renowned for her softball prowess at Sacramento State from 2009 to 2012, has served as a coach on the Giants’ staff since her recruitment by Kapler in January 2020.
