Southampton Player Earns Spot in EFL Championship Team of the Week

Adam Armstrong Earns Championship Team of the Week Spot with Brace in Southampton’s Victory over Leeds United

Adam Armstrong, hailing from Newcastle, injected positivity into St Mary’s Stadium after a string of challenging results. He wasted no time, finding the net just 104 seconds into Saturday’s game.

A precise through pass from Kyle Walker-Peters set him up, and Armstrong skillfully chipped the ball over Illan Meslier from a challenging angle. Despite a limited number of touches in the first half, he managed to secure his second goal and Saints’ third at the 35-minute mark.

To create the opportunity, he navigated past full-back Sam Byram, and while the ball did receive a slight touch from Pascal Struijk, it ultimately found the back of the net. Saints’ manager, Russell Martin, was firm in attributing the goal to Armstrong, emphasizing his composure.

With this second brace at home this season, Armstrong has elevated his goal tally to seven from nine games. This achievement places him on par with Sunderland’s Jack Clarke, who has also scored seven goals in nine games. However, Armstrong has an additional assist to his credit.
