In a thrilling soccer showdown at Fitzgerald Field on Monday night, Talan Burr and Stacey Casorla showcased their skills with hat-trick performances, leading Sheehan to a dominant victory over Lyman Hall in a fierce rivalry.

The Sheehan boys emerged triumphant with a 4-1 victory, while the Titans’ girls followed suit with a commanding 5-0 win.

These victories elevated the boys’ team’s record to 3-5 and propelled the Lady Titans to a 4-3 record. On the other side, the Lyman Hall boys sit at 2-5-1, and the girls are at 2-5-0.

In both matches, Sheehan established an early 2-0 lead in the first half and maintained control throughout the games.

Burr opened the scoring in the 18th minute, capitalizing on a breakaway opportunity. In the 22nd minute, Alex Cardona extended the lead to 2-0 by tapping in a loose ball in front of the Lyman Hall goalkeeper, with Burr providing the assist. This marked Cardona’s first goal of the season.

Sheehan’s freshman goalkeeper, Nour Sofiane, made crucial saves to keep the Trojans off the scoreboard, denying a pair of free kicks in the first half.

Lyman Hall had a chance to close the gap in the 45th minute with a penalty kick, but Stephen Rodas Valverde’s effort went over the bar, leaving the score at 2-0.

Rodas Valverde redeemed himself by scoring in the 48th minute, bringing the score to 2-1. However, Sheehan swiftly restored their two-goal lead, with Burr notching his second goal in just 17 seconds.

Burr’s pursuit of a hat trick was initially denied in the 60th and 66th minutes, but he ultimately achieved the feat in the 69th minute, extending the Titans’ lead to 4-1. Reynaldo Sanchez provided the assist for Burr’s final goal.

After this performance, Burr’s season tally stands at an impressive 11 goals and two assists.

The Sheehan coach, Lou Rodriguez, commended the senior players and captains for their leadership and praised Burr’s explosive playing style.

Chase Britton, Nico Cardona, Burr, and Sanchez all contributed with assists in the victory for Sheehan.

In the girls’ game, Sheehan took an early 2-0 lead in the first half. Junior Amber May opened the scoring with a goal that saw her collide with LH goalkeeper Tatum Callahan but still find the net. Casorla added the second goal in the 28th minute.

The Titans continued to dominate, with Gabriella Reddy scoring in the 48th minute, extending the lead to 3-0. Casorla notched her second goal in the 53rd minute, and she completed her hat trick in the 74th minute, making it her second hat trick of the season.

The match ended with a resounding 5-0 victory for Sheehan.

Meghan Keating, Sheehan’s sophomore goalkeeper, celebrated her third shutout of the season, crediting her solid defense for the achievement.

Lyman Hall’s standout players included Rosie Turbett and Ellie Madancy in the midfield, with Turbett making her return from an ACL tear suffered last season. Junior Madison Buccheri also performed admirably.

The two rival teams are set to face each other again on October 25 at the new Sheehan turf at Riccitelli Field.
