Indian Hills Men’s Soccer Secures Historic Home Field Advantage for NJCAA Midwest District Tournament

In a historic achievement, the 11th-ranked Indian Hills men’s soccer team clinched a 2-1 victory over ninth-ranked Iowa Western, earning them the outright Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) regular-season title. This victory also marked the program’s first-ever regular-season series sweep of the Reivers. Most notably, it grants the Warriors the privilege of hosting the upcoming National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I Midwest District Tournament on their home field.

With this win, the Warriors extend their impressive record to 6-1-5 for the season, having remained unbeaten in their last seven matches.

IHCC head men’s soccer coach Felix Vu expressed his pride in the team’s performance, praising their unwavering energy and character both on the field and from the bench.

The game’s first goal occurred at the 28:15 mark of the first half when sophomore Gustavo Marques capitalized on a corner kick, scoring from close range. Iowa Western responded 5:30 later with a penalty kick, leveling the score.

The pivotal moment came in the 59th minute when freshman Lucas Bauer capitalized on a Reiver miscue, forcing a turnover in the Reiver box and securing an open net opportunity. Bauer received a pass from Hayato Morimoto and scored the go-ahead goal.

Indian Hills’ defense remained resolute over the final 31 minutes, effectively limiting the Reiver’s scoring opportunities and securing the program’s inaugural regular-season conference title.

Freshman goalkeeper Harvey Sellers played a vital role in the victory, maintaining his unbeaten record as he improved to 3-0-4 for the year. Sellers has allowed just two goals in his last six outings, boasting an impressive 0.49 goals against average.

With this remarkable achievement, Indian Hills earns the top spot in the NJCAA Midwest District Tournament, set to take place from November 3-5 at the IHCC Soccer Complex in Ottumwa. The tournament features four teams, and Indian Hills will face the regular-season winner of NJCAA Region 4, while Iowa Western will take on the regular-season winner of NJCAA Region 24.

The action kicks off on Friday, November 3, with the championship match scheduled for Sunday, November 5, all hosted at the IHCC Soccer Complex. The tournament winner will secure an automatic bid to the NJCAA National Championship, commencing on November 12 in Wichita, Kansas.
