Bruno Guimaraes Commits to Newcastle with Contract Extension

Newcastle United’s midfield dynamo, Bruno Guimaraes, has formally inked a contract extension, ensuring his presence at St. James’ Park until the summer of 2028. This renewed pact not only brings a salary boost but also extends the Brazilian’s tenure with the Magpies by an additional two years. Guimaraes expressed his jubilation, saying, “I’m so happy here. It’s a place that is so comfortable to be, and I hope to keep making the supporters happy and helping the team do well. That’s my goal because there are no words to describe how happy I am to be here.”

He continued, “I remember in my first interview, I said I wanted to play for this club in the Champions League, and now it’s happening. We are doing so well, and when I look around the pitch at my teammates, I am so proud of them all. I’m proud of everyone; the team, the staff, the owners, and the fans. The city believes again, and it’s unbelievable what we have done for the team. I hope that this can continue. It’s amazing what has happened in my life in the last two years.”

Guimaraes has played a pivotal role in Newcastle’s ascent to the Champions League. When he arrived from Lyon in January 2022, the Magpies languished in 17th place in the Premier League standings. However, his contributions helped propel the club to a ninth-place finish by the end of the season, securing a Champions League spot for the 2022/23 campaign. His signing was also a significant move by Newcastle’s new Saudi Arabian ownership, following the Public Investment Fund’s (PIF) takeover just months before Guimaraes joined the club.

While the contract extension brings joy to Newcastle fans, it comes with a reported release clause of $122 million, as per Mail Sport. While this is a substantial figure, it aligns with recent high-value transfer fees, exemplified by Chelsea’s acquisition of Moises Caicedo from Brighton in August.
