In an extraordinary match, the Crescent football team pulled off an impressive 58-0 victory over Lummi. The Loggers didn’t even need to engage their offense to score 20 points, thanks to their special teams’ outstanding performance.

This win was significant for Crescent as it marked their first victory over Lummi since 2018. It was also a historic win against the Blackhawks, a team with a strong 1B history, although they struggled this year with a 1-4 record. To put this in perspective, Lummi had defeated Tulalip Heritage earlier in the season, and Tulalip Heritage had recently bested Crescent.

What made this game even more unique was the fact that it took place on a Tuesday. The match had been rescheduled due to poor air quality back in September.

Coach Brian Shimko was pleasantly surprised by the outcome. He described the performance as what they should have achieved in the past few weeks. With a 3-3 record, Crescent is now in contention for a playoff spot.

The Loggers’ special teams were the stars of the game. Dominiq Sprague scored their first touchdown with a 64-yard kickoff return. Crescent’s defense held strong, forced a punt, and then Lukas Love scored again with a 70-yard punt return. Josh Berson forced a safety, increasing the lead to 14-0. On the subsequent kickoff, Love returned the ball for a 62-yard touchdown.

Remarkably, the offense had hardly seen any action, except for extra points. Shimko credited the success to their special teams and the playmaking abilities of Sprague and Love.

Love achieved a hat-trick of touchdowns, one from a 15-yard pass by Henry Bourm, and two more from runs of 26 and 4 yards. Tommy Leonard added a 2-yard run, bringing the score to 50-0 by halftime. Love later caught a 47-yard pass from Bourm for his fourth touchdown.

Owen Jackson and Wyatt Owens each secured two two-point conversions. Despite their dominance on special teams, Crescent’s offense accumulated less than 200 total yards, with the junior varsity players taking over in the second half.

Bourm led the team in rushing with 37 yards and had an 85-yard passing performance, completing 4 of 5 passes. Love contributed with three catches for 77 yards and a 14-yard rush. Sprague rushed six times for 29 yards, while Leonard ran five times for 14 yards. Owen Jackson made an 8-yard catch.

Crescent, now standing at 3-3, will play against Charles Wright Academy in Tacoma on Saturday at 1 p.m. They will face the Neah Bay JV team next Tuesday in Neah Bay and have two critical matchups against strong league opponents, Concrete (4-2) and Darrington (6-0) in the near future.
