Barcelona Maintains Perfect Champions League Record with Win Over Shakhtar

Barcelona showcased their youthful talent with a 2-1 triumph over Shakhtar Donetsk in the UEFA Champions League. Despite the absence of key players due to injuries and suspensions, the home team dominated from the start.

In the 28th minute, Ferran Torres and Fermin Lopez scored the first-half goals that sealed Barcelona’s victory. Initially, there was controversy over an offside call, but VAR confirmed Lopez’s onside position when he took the shot.

With star players like Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, Sergi Roberto, Frenkie de Jong, Jules Kound√©, Pedri, and the suspension of Gavi, Barcelona’s manager Xavi Hernandez called upon eight academy players, including the emerging talent, Fermin Lopez, who made a significant impact.

Lopez continued to trouble Shakhtar, extending Barcelona’s lead with a powerful shot that hit the left post before finding the back of the net in the 36th minute. Despite having several opportunities to widen their lead, Barcelona was denied by the woodwork and VAR decisions.

Georgiy Sudakov of Shakhtar managed to pull one back in the 62nd minute, but Barcelona held on, securing their third consecutive win in the group stage.

Man of the match, Fermin Lopez, expressed his satisfaction, stating, “It was a hard-fought victory in a difficult match. It was hard for us, but I’m happy for the win and for contributing a goal.”

Barcelona now tops Group H with nine points, six ahead of Porto, who have a game in hand. Barcelona will host their rivals, Real Madrid, in the first Clasico of the LaLiga season on Saturday.
