Pakistani Presenter Zainab Abbas Leaves India During Cricket World Cup 2023 Amid Social Media Controversy

Zainab Abbas, a Pakistani presenter and part of the ICC digital team covering the ODI Cricket World Cup, has left India amidst a social media controversy. While rumors swirled that her departure was linked to alleged anti-India posts from her unverified X account, the International Cricket Council (ICC) clarified that she left for personal reasons.

Zainab had been assigned to cover Pakistan’s World Cup games in Hyderabad, and she was present at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium for Pakistan’s World Cup opener against the Netherlands on October 6. Speculation on social media regarding her sudden departure gained momentum, but the ICC emphasized that she was not deported from India.

An ICC spokesperson stated, “Zainab has not been deported; she has left for personal reasons.” Zainab had arrived in Hyderabad and was scheduled to travel to other cities where Pakistan was set to play, including Bengaluru, Chennai, and Ahmedabad.

It’s worth noting that former Pakistan cricket players Rameez Raja and Waqar Younis are in India as part of the commentary panel for the ongoing ODI World Cup, which began on October 5 and will conclude on November 19.

The Pakistan cricket team received a warm welcome at the Hyderabad airport on September 27, marking their return to India after a seven-year absence. Skipper Babar Azam and other team members expressed their appreciation for the overwhelming support they received from Indian fans since their arrival.
