Bangladesh’s ICC World Cup campaign suffered a significant setback in their upcoming clash against South Africa. Taskin Ahmed, their key fast bowler, has been ruled out of the match due to an ongoing shoulder injury.

Taskin was absent from their previous game against India due to this injury. It appears that he has not fully recovered, leading to his exclusion from the training session at the Wankhede Stadium on October 22.

Team captain Shakib Al Hasan confirmed Taskin’s absence, stating, “Taskin is not playing in tomorrow’s match. He can return after this match; he has a shoulder problem that has troubled him in the last two matches. The medical team has recommended two days of rest. We hope to have him available for the remaining four games, which is crucial for us.

Taskin initially suffered the shoulder injury during their 2022 tour of South Africa. While surgery was advised, the team management opted to delay it, keeping their focus on the 2022 T20 World Cup.

Taskin experienced discomfort during the game against England and discussed it with head coach Chandika Hathurusingha. Although he played against New Zealand, his performance was lackluster.

During the recent training session, Taskin refrained from bowling and focused on rehabilitation work with physio Bayzidul Islam.

Additionally, Bangladesh will closely monitor ODI captain Shakib, who missed the game against India. He is expected to return to bowling for the first time since sustaining a quad tear during the match against New Zealand. Shakib underwent an extended batting session at the Wankhede Stadium, and his availability for the upcoming match will be determined after assessing his bowling performance and running session.
