Taskin Ahmed’s career has been marked by two significant moments of tears. The first occurred in 2016 when, at just 21 years old, he was suspended during the ICC World T20 due to a suspect bowling action. The sudden loss of the spotlight was a crushing blow for the young rookie.

The second tearful moment came in 2019 at the BCB academy premises when he was not selected for the 2019 Cricket World Cup squad despite his desperate efforts. Taskin, however, believes that these setbacks have made him wiser.

Reflecting on his journey, Taskin said, “The journey was interesting and it was a big lesson of my life, and I got a good reality check.” He was dropped from the team but used the setback as motivation to make a strong comeback. Taskin remains determined, stating, “I have only achieved one fourth of my dream and there is still a long way to go.

Taskin is now the leader of the pace bowling unit in the ongoing 2023 ICC World Cup, but the scars from his earlier disappointments still linger. He has a point to prove and unfinished business to address.

In discussing his goals for the tournament, Taskin mentioned that he has personal targets but prefers to keep them private to avoid unnecessary pressure. His comeback after a long injury layoff and a period of poor form has been an inspiration to his teammates, with Mehidy Hasan acknowledging Taskin’s hard work and determination.

Taskin attributes his success to discipline and a well-balanced lifestyle. He consulted with experts and followed the lifestyle of star players to maintain a disciplined routine. He emphasized the importance of the “process” in his life, whether it’s about bowling in the right areas or staying fit and mentally healthy. Taskin is determined to set a standard for fast bowlers in his country.

Over the past two years, Taskin has evolved into a leader of the pace attack, becoming the highest wicket-taker for his country in ODIs with an impressive economy rate. He attributes this success to gaining experience across formats, understanding conditions, and analyzing opposition batsmen.

Despite a less-than-ideal start to the World Cup, Taskin remains determined to complete his unfinished business in India. Bangladesh is eager to see him perform his magic against England in their second game on October 10, 2023.
