Shubman Gill to Miss India’s Second World Cup Match Due to Dengue

Shubman Gill will continue to be sidelined as he recuperates from dengue, rendering him unavailable for India’s upcoming World Cup fixture against Afghanistan in Delhi. Gill had previously missed the opening game against Australia in Chennai.

The BCCI has announced that Gill will not travel to Delhi with the team but will remain in Chennai under the care of the medical staff.

Despite some optimism earlier regarding Gill’s recovery, he was unable to regain full fitness in time for the match. Ishan Kishan stepped in as the opener alongside Rohit Sharma in the absence of Gill during the game against Australia. Although India initially faced a challenging situation at 2 for 3 while chasing a target of 200, they eventually secured a six-wicket victory with 52 balls to spare.

Gill, the leading run-scorer in ODIs this year with 1230 runs at an impressive average of 72.35 and a strike rate of 105.03, is a significant absence for the team. He has displayed remarkable form in his last four ODIs, including two centuries and a half-century.

Following their clash with Afghanistan on October 11, India will travel to Ahmedabad for a highly anticipated match against Pakistan on October 14.
