Mahedi, Tanzid, Litton, and Mehidy shine brightly in Bangladesh’s effortless victory.

In a warm-up match ahead of the ODI World Cup in Guwahati, Bangladesh comfortably secured a seven-wicket victory over Sri Lanka. Bangladesh’s top three batsmen, Tanzid Hasan, Litton Das, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz, all scored half-centuries to lead their team to the win.

Bangladesh bowled out Sri Lanka for a total of 263 runs and successfully chased it down with eight overs to spare. Notably, Sri Lanka faced additional concerns as opener Kusal Perera had to leave the field in the 10th over due to a right shoulder strain after scoring 34 runs off 24 balls.

Apart from the final outcome, Bangladesh had several reasons to be pleased with their performance. Tanzid Hasan, a relatively new addition to the team with only five ODIs under his belt, impressed with his breezy knock of 84 runs off 88 balls, featuring ten fours and two sixes. This partnership, worth 131 runs, with Litton Das, who contributed 61 runs, set the stage for Bangladesh to chase down Sri Lanka’s target.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who also captained the Bangladesh side during this game, followed up the openers’ performances with an unbeaten score of 67 runs. He had earlier bowled a tight spell, giving away only 32 runs in his ten overs and taking one wicket.

Sri Lanka’s innings had a promising start, with Pathum Nissanka forming a significant partnership of 104 runs with Kusal Perera and Kusal Mendis. However, wickets started falling after the 15th over, and Nissanka top-scored with 68 runs while Dhananjaya de Silva contributed 55 runs at No. 6. Most of the middle-order batsmen struggled to make an impact, and Mahedi Hasan, an offspinner, was the key contributor for Bangladesh, claiming 3 wickets for 36 runs in his nine overs. Other Bangladeshi bowlers, including Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Shoriful Islam, Nasum Ahmed, and Mehidy, also took one wicket each, eventually bowling Sri Lanka out in the final over.

Bangladesh is scheduled to play their next warm-up match against England on Monday, while Sri Lanka will face Afghanistan on Tuesday. Both matches will be held at the same venue.
