Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly voiced his dismay over Pakistan’s batting performance following their loss to India in the 2023 World Cup. Ganguly, a former leader of the Indian cricket team, contends that the present Pakistan side is missing the grit and competitive spirit that were hallmarks of the team during his own playing career.

In the match held in Ahmedabad on Saturday, October 14, Pakistan initially found themselves in a favorable position at 155/2. However, their batting order suffered a sudden collapse, resulting in a meager total of 191 runs. Sourav Ganguly expressed his surprise at the lack of composure displayed by the Pakistani batsmen and emphasized that the current team pales in comparison to the competitive prowess of the Pakistan side during his playing days.

In our era, Pakistan had a different team. The current squad struggles under pressure, particularly when batting. Their prospects of staging a comeback in this World Cup appear challenging,” Ganguly stated in an interview with Times Now.

Facing a target of 192, Pakistan needed a strong start with the ball, hoping to secure early wickets and make the game competitive. However, Indian captain Rohit Sharma’s remarkable innings of 86 runs off 63 balls dashed any hopes of a Pakistani resurgence. Ganguly was delighted to witness India’s comprehensive performance and noted that the Men in Blue are excelling in all facets of the game precisely when it matters.

Rohit delivered an exceptional performance against Pakistan. India’s performance, encompassing batting, bowling, and fielding, is reaching its peak at the opportune moment,” Ganguly remarked.

India’s significant victory not only solidified their position at the top of the table with three wins from three games but also improved their net run rate. The hosts are scheduled to face Bangladesh in Pune on Thursday, October 19.
