Recently, Shaquille O’Neal gained attention for his daring feat of devouring a fiery chip. Ironically, in a recent interview, he expressed a longing for an icy escapade. In a conversation with GQ Sports, the adored basketball icon disclosed his yearning to explore the frosty terrain of Antarctica.

When asked about his ultimate dream destination yet to be explored, Shaq mentioned, “Siberia…Mongolia…And I want to try Antarctica. That’d be a nice TV show: Shaq and the boys in Antarctica. We’ll see if we can survive.”

Antarctica houses two primary groups: tourists and those dedicated to scientific research. With approximately 66 scientific bases, around 37 remain inhabited throughout the year. The population surges to around 4,000 during the summer and declines to about 1,000 during the harsh winter.

Should the former LA Lakers legend plan an Antarctic expedition with his companions, meticulous planning would be essential. Access to the continent is overseen by the Antarctic Treaty, demanding expedition organizers to seek approval from their respective governments.

According to CoolAntarctica.com, those aspiring to venture to the frigid land must justify their trip with a significant cause that minimizes environmental impact. Traveling without permission is deemed illegal, constituting a violation of the Antarctic Treaty.

During an interview after his 2000 MVP win, Shaquille O’Neal amusingly labeled himself with a string of nicknames, including one that comically referenced Antarctica.

“From this day on, I’d like to be known as ‘The Big Aristotle’ because Aristotle once said, ‘Excellence is not a singular act; it’s a habit. You are what you repeatedly do,'” he stated. “I want to be known as ‘The Big Shakespeare.’ It was Shakespeare that said, ‘Some men are born great, some achieve greatness, some have greatness thrust upon them.'”

Continuing with his playful self-naming tradition, he added, “‘The Big Stock Exchange.’ I start off at one price. Every now and then, I’ll go down, but eventually, I’ll go back up. ‘The Big IPO.’ Put your money on me. Because when I go public, we all gonna make money.”

Shaquille O’Neal concluded with a humorous reference, “Can’t forget ‘The Big Antarctica’ because I’m so cold.”

Notably, to date, no NBA player, past or present, has embarked on a journey to Antarctica, making it an intriguing prospect if Shaq could potentially become the first.
