UAAP: Magbuhos Secures Victory with Buzzer-Beater, Propelling Adamson Past Ateneo

MANILA — In a stunning upset, Adamson University clinched their second win of the UAAP season by defeating the defending champions.

The Soaring Falcons emerged victorious against Ateneo de Manila University with a score of 74-71 during the UAAP Season 86 Men’s Basketball Tournament at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

With the score tied at 71 and only 3.3 seconds left in overtime, Vince Magbuhos delivered a game-changing three-pointer, leaving the Blue Eagles in disbelief and securing their second loss in three games.

Although Ateneo had a strong start, surging ahead by 19 points early in the game, the squad from San Marcelino fought back with a powerful 19-9 performance in the third quarter, closing the gap to just two points, 46-48.

The Blue Eagles regained their momentum in the fourth quarter, reestablishing a 10-point lead, 60-50, after a three-pointer by Kai Ballungay at the 7:10 mark.

Eli Ramos’ successful free throws brought the Soaring Falcons within striking distance, trailing by just one possession, 66-69, with 1:24 left in the fourth quarter. This was followed by a clutch three-pointer from Matthew Montebon at the 29.4-second mark, sending the game into overtime.

Next, the Soaring Falcons are set to face off against De La Salle University on October 11 at 3 PM, while the Blue Eagles will take on the University of the East on the same day at 9 AM.

Both matches are scheduled to be held at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
