As per the official announcement, Unicaja and MoraBanc Andorra have come to terms for the acquisition of Tyson Perez, a 2.02-meter, 27-year-old Spanish power forward with Dominican heritage. Perez has committed to a four-season deal with Unicaja, although he will be continuing to play this season on loan with MoraBanc Andorra.

After a rigorous recovery from a significant left knee injury that sidelined him for the entire 2021-22 season, Perez was loaned from Andorra to BAXI Manresa and Coosur Real Betis during the 2022-23 season. In those 28 appearances, he averaged an impressive 12.7 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. This recent development sees Andorra transitioning from the lending side to the borrowing side in this loan arrangement with Unicaja, following a contract buyout agreement.

Perez shared his perspective on the situation, stating, “It’s a bit unusual, but we’ve ultimately reached a point where everyone is content. Playing in Andorra will be beneficial for me.”

Both Unicaja and Andorra currently hold a 1-3 record in Liga Endesa at the beginning of the 2023-24 season, Spain’s top-tier basketball division. Unicaja, based in Malaga, will be participating in both domestic league and continental competitions in the Basketball Champions League.

Perez has acquired international experience, having played in four games for Spain, spanning from the 2022 EuroBasket qualifiers to the 2023 FIBA World Cup.
