San Sebastian College-Recoletos Secures First Victory in NCAA Season 99 Men’s Basketball Tournament

In a spectacular display of teamwork and skill, the Golden Stags dominated the Arellano Chiefs with a resounding 111-86 win at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.

This victory marked a strong comeback for San Sebastian after their initial setback against the Mapua Cardinals at the start of Season 99. Meanwhile, Arellano faced their second defeat, following a loss to the San Beda Red Lions.

Impressively, six players for the Golden Stags achieved double-digit scores, with Mark de Leon leading the charge at 16 points, showcasing exceptional accuracy with a 7-of-8 shooting record. Rafael Are contributed 15 points, while Jessie Sumoda displayed versatility with 14 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists in just 23 minutes of play.

San Sebastian took control early on with a commanding 30-17 lead in the first quarter and extended their dominance to a 27-point advantage at one stage. Their shooting precision stood at an impressive 53.2%, complemented by a commanding 51-32 edge in rebounds over Arellano.

Crucially, the Golden Stags capitalized on 19 offensive rebounds, resulting in 18 second-chance points.

Despite a valiant effort, Lorenz Capulong led the Chiefs’ scoring with 21 points in a hard-fought match.
