Utah Jazz reportedly discussed a trade with Houston Rockets involving Talen Horton-Tucker

Utah Jazz Trade Talks: Talen Horton-Tucker in Discussions with Houston Rockets

In a recent trade agreement, the Houston Rockets and the Oklahoma City Thunder sealed a deal on Tuesday that saw Rockets guard Kevin Porter Jr. being traded to OKC. In return, the Rockets acquired Victor Oladipo and Jeremiah Robinson-Earl. This transaction was reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and included the exchange of multiple second-round draft picks.

This move by the Rockets was primarily motivated by the need to offload Kevin Porter Jr., who faced legal issues following his alleged involvement in an attack on his girlfriend, Kysre Gondrezick, a former WNBA player. The incident took place at the Millennium Hilton near the United Nations on September 11 in New York. It’s worth noting that on Tuesday, Gondrezick publicly denied these allegations, as reported by the New York Post.

The Oklahoma City Thunder’s plan is to waive Kevin Porter Jr. immediately, but they will receive two second-round picks from the Rockets in return for their part in helping the Rockets part ways with the troubled guard, as revealed by Wojnarowski.

In the aftermath of the Kevin Porter Jr. trade, there were discussions between the Utah Jazz and the Houston Rockets regarding a potential deal. This trade might have involved Victor Oladipo and additional second-round draft picks from Houston, as the Rockets aimed to bolster their roster with more immediate talent to boost their chances of winning.

According to information from Yahoo Sports’ Jake Fischer, the proposed trade would have seen the Jazz sending guard Talen Horton-Tucker to the Rockets. The Jazz seem to be leaning toward giving more opportunities to former fifth overall pick Kris Dunn, who has shown promising progress in Salt Lake City. They also intend to grant substantial responsibilities to Keyonte George, their 2023 first-round selection, in managing Utah’s offense. This strategic shift made Talen Horton-Tucker available for trade.

The Jazz’s pursuit of trade options to alleviate their crowded guard rotation isn’t surprising, as they had reportedly been exploring upgrades at this position earlier in the offseason. They had expressed interest in guard Jrue Holiday, who was on the market following his acquisition by the Portland Trail Blazers in the trade that sent Damian Lillard to Milwaukee.
