LeBron James and Stephen Curry Among NBA Stars Considering Participation in Paris Olympics

Multiple reports on Monday indicate that NBA superstars LeBron James and Stephen Curry, among other top players, are showing interest in representing the United States at the Paris Olympics next year. LeBron James, a two-time Olympic champion and four-time NBA champion, has been actively recruiting fellow NBA stars to assemble a formidable US squad

aiming for a fifth consecutive gold medal in France, as reported by The Athletic. Meanwhile, Stephen Curry, a four-time NBA champion guard with the Golden State Warriors, has expressed his desire to play on the Olympic team under the guidance of Warriors coach Steve Kerr, according to ESPN.

This news comes on the heels of a US team of young NBA stars leaving the Basketball World Cup without any medals after losses to Canada in the bronze-medal game and eventual champion Germany in the semi-final.

LeBron James, a 38-year-old forward, had previously led the USA to Olympic gold in 2008 in Beijing and in 2012 in London but has not competed in the Olympics since then. Despite his Olympic success, he has also experienced the disappointment of finishing with a bronze medal in the Athens Olympics in 2004 and the Basketball World Cup in 2006.

In addition to his own interest in the Paris Olympics, LeBron James has reached out to former NBA Most Valuable Players, including Curry and Kevin Durant, in an effort to persuade them to participate in the 2024 Games.

Kevin Durant, a two-time NBA champion and forward for the Phoenix Suns, has been a key contributor to previous US Olympic gold-medal efforts, including London 2012, Rio 2016, and Tokyo 2021.

While Curry has yet to represent the US Olympic team, he played a crucial role in American club teams winning the World Cup titles in 2010 and 2014, the only such titles since 1994.

LeBron James has also reportedly recruited other top players for the 2024 US Olympic team, including his Los Angeles Lakers teammate Anthony Davis, Golden State’s Draymond Green, and Boston’s Jayson Tatum.

Phoenix’s Devin Booker, a three-time NBA All-Star, and 38-year-old Chris Paul of Golden State, a gold medalist in 2008 and 2012, have also expressed their interest in participating in the Paris Olympics, as reported by ESPN.
