Meeks Madness: Fans Get a Glimpse of Purple Aces Basketball Teams in Action

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – As the college basketball season draws nearer, the University of Evansville (UE) hosted its Meeks Madness event to formally introduce both the men’s and women’s basketball squads to their loyal fans.

The evening was a showcase of talent and enthusiasm. It began with player introductions, followed by an entertaining three-point contest involving players from both teams. The men’s team then wowed the crowd with a dunk contest, culminating in spirited scrimmages. While it wasn’t an official competition, the return of the fans to the arena was a welcome sight for the players.

It’s fantastic to have the fans back in the building,” expressed 5th-year Guard Kenny Strawbridge Jr. “When the weather starts to turn cold, you know it’s basketball time. It’s a joy to show the fans what we’ve got this year. We’ve seen a lot of sharp-shooters and high-flyers, so we’re eager to give the fans a glimpse of who we are and provide some insight into the team. But most importantly, we’re here to have fun tonight.”

For the women’s team, the event served as a valuable opportunity for a group of new faces to bond and build chemistry on the court.

Not only do we have transfers and graduates, but we also have 10 newcomers,” explained Junior Guard Alana Striverson. “That’s something we focused on from the get-go during practice. We need to understand each other’s tendencies and develop team chemistry, anticipating each other’s moves. Playing with intensity and unity is our primary focus for this season.

With the season kickoff for both teams just around the corner and the first exhibition games even closer, excitement continues to build. The men’s team will have an exhibition game on October 28, while the women’s team’s exhibition is scheduled for November 2.
