The brooms were put to work on Wednesday as the Arizona Diamondbacks, Texas Rangers, and Minnesota Twins secured impressive sweeps to advance in the MLB playoffs.

In the National League, the Diamondbacks triumphed with a 5-2 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers, eliminating the NL Central champions from postseason contention. The Brewers initially took the lead with two runs in the first inning, but the Diamondbacks turned the tide with a four-run sixth inning, securing a 2-0 series win and a date with the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLDS.

Meanwhile, the Texas Rangers dominated the Tampa Bay Rays with a resounding 7-1 win, marking their first postseason series victory since 2011. Home runs from Adolis Garcia and Evan Carter, along with an RBI triple from Josh Jung, propelled the Rangers to a 4-0 lead in the fourth inning. They added three more runs and sealed their ticket to the ALDS. Pitcher Nathan Eovaldi was stellar, recording eight strikeouts and allowing only one run and six hits in nearly seven innings on the mound.

The Rangers are set to face the Orioles in Baltimore in their next postseason matchup, while the Rays extended their postseason losing streak to seven games.

In the American League, following their historic win on Tuesday that ended an 18-game postseason losing streak, the Minnesota Twins cruised to a 2-0 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays. A surprising early pitching change by the Blue Jays backfired as the Twins quickly took a 2-0 lead on a Carlos Correa single and a Willi Castro RBI after Jose Berrios was removed from the game in the fourth inning.

The Twins’ win earned them a spot in the ALDS against the Houston Astros, marking their first series win since 2002.
