In Monday Night Football, San Francisco’s Christian McCaffrey shone, but it wasn’t enough. The Minnesota Vikings clinched a late victory with a 22-17 score at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. This loss marked the 49ers’ second consecutive defeat after an impressive 5-0 season start.

McCaffrey extended his scoring streak to 16 games, scoring his first touchdown with a 3-yard run just before halftime, leaving him trailing behind NFL record holder Lenny Moore, who scored in 17 straight games.

Just over a minute before halftime, McCaffrey’s touchdown narrowed the Vikings’ lead to three points. However, Jordan Addison turned a potential interception into a 60-yard score just before halftime, giving the Vikings a 16-7 lead after a missed extra point. It was Addison’s second touchdown of the night, following a 20-yard reception in the first quarter.

The Vikings attempted to push into the end zone from the 1-yard line in the third quarter, but the 49ers’ goal line stand held them to a field goal. Shortly after, McCaffrey ran in a 35-yard touchdown for his second of the night, cutting the lead to five points.

Despite a chance to take the lead after both teams exchanged field goals, Brock Purdy threw two costly interceptions to Camryn Bynum, securing the five-point victory for the Vikings.

Purdy went 21-of-30 for 272 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions, while McCaffrey contributed 45 rushing yards on 15 carries and 51 receiving yards on three catches. George Kittle recorded 78 yards on five catches.

Kirk Cousins had a strong performance, going 35-of-45 for 378 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. Addison stood out with 124 yards and two touchdowns on seven catches, and T.J. Hockenson added 86 yards on 11 catches.
