I believe that from an early age, players should encourage an experiment with all the variables that you can do on a tennis ball. This includes trajectory, rotation, speed and direction. These Tennis exercises There are a few that you can use to help your players learn how to develop the skills needed to change what they do with the ball, but also learn to read the receiving ball while expecting their reaction.

Drill – Change of rotation

This drill is designed so that the players replace the spin that relates to the ball, and they have to adapt to the rotation that the opponent sends.

Drill1

  1. Players will compete in 3 Tiebreaky. Each tiebreak is at 10 points and each point begins with cooperative serving and return (if someone won a point from the service or return, then it is not counted and the point is re -triggered).
  2. In the first tiebreak, the server can only affect their service and ground strokes and the receiver can only hit the top rotation on their ground strokes.
  3. In the second Tiebreak, the server can only hit the topspin on their serving and ground strokes and the receiver is allowed to hit the slice on their ground blows.
  4. In the third Tiebreak server decides what rotation they want to use for a shot and the receiver must play the opposite rotation back.
Drill – unsolicited

Playing people who are constantly changing the type of shot you get can be frustrating. It is very difficult to find a rhythm and you are always on the edge, you do not know what will be next. This drill helps players send “unhealthy” to their opponents and helps them learn to receive “unhealthy”.

Drill2

  1. Players will compete in Tiebrek with 10 with cooperative serving and return.
  2. Players can only win a point of shot or lobby, so they have to learn when to bring their opponent and make a lob.
  3. Also, players cannot play the same shot twice in a row, eg. If you play a deep high cross court Topspin, you need to change the height, speed, direct or spin at the next shot. If they play the same shot twice in a row, they lose a point.
