“This is a very significant fall” that said BC. The River Forecast Center Hydraologist Jonathan Boyd told Global News.

While we are currently in a La Nina climate, sometimes the snow season is a little more extended by late April or early May, he said.
That is, in February and March, some of the province should see the “actually big months”, to go back to the “normal snowback”, Boyd said.
“From a flood point of view, this is certainly a positive, not looking at the ridiculous areas of the province,” he said.

“But now we are natural in snowbag, which will increase the risks of drought in spring and summer.”
Although the current snow situation is another year of drought alert, Boyd warned that many factors could still change that decision.
He noted that most parts of the province have more snow than what they did at this time last year. On February 1, 2024, only 61 per cent of the average normal of the province of BC.
Although last year was a challenging drought year, Boyd said the conditions were better than the worse situation.

On the contrary, the previous year’s healthy snopback, despite the fact that it was even worse.
“The driving fact recorded the hottest temperature in May, and it drove the snow melting,” he said.
Boyd said how the water situation in the province develops will be heavily on the weather in the next months.
Officials will also get a better understanding of the situation in the spring.
“The gold standard, the measuring menu is April 1,” Boyd said. “This usually refers to the peak of the snow accumulation season.”
