Belinda BencicComeback of maternity leave hit a significant milestone on Saturday when she claimed Abu Dhabi open title with a victory 4-6 6-1 6-1 over American Ashlyn Krueger. With this victory 27-year-old expanded its flawless record on the tournament to 9-0after winning the title in 2023.
Bencic, who competed as a representative sign, went through a challenging draw to pick up the WTA 500 trophy. Her way to the title included victories over Rebecca Sramkova, Veronika Kudermetová, Market Vondrous, the highest seed Elena Rybakina in the semifinals and finally Krueger in the championship. The final lasted 2 hours and 23 minutes, with its first WTA title since then become a mother in April 2024.
Bencic, former Olympic gold medalist no. 4 and 2021, has now won her ninth WTA Singles title.
From Return to the competition in October 2024Bencic did not waste time to find a rhythm. She returned to the event through the WTA 125 event, two ITF and Play -off Billie Jean King Cup before her official WTA return to the United Cup in January.
Her dynamics continued at the Australian Open, where she reached the fourth round in her first Grand Slam since 2023 US Open. Now, after his Run title in Abu Dhabi, Bencic has an impressive record of 12-3 in 2025.
