Goa Barrier Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said on Wednesday, the import, reproduction and sale of Rodweeler and Pit Bull dog species.
Sawant said the cabinet had approved A correction 2024 Goa Animal Breeding, Domestic Terms and Compensation Command to ban the sale of two dog species, import and reproduction.
Already, people with rodweelers and pit bulls should register and take responsibility for them, Sawant added.
After a series of events that human beings were attacked by “occupation” dogs, the decision was decided to impose a ban.
By March 2024, the federal government urged states to ban states Import, breeding and selling 23 “brutal” dog species in the wake of many hazardous attacks on humans.
It has mentioned many species including Pit Bull Terriars, Dosa Inu, American Bulldogs, Japanese Dosa and Akita, Mastifs, Rodweelers, Terriars, Central Asian Shepherd Dogs, Wolf Dog and Fantac.
The Ministry of Fisheries, Livestock and Dal said that it had received representations from citizens forums and animal rights groups at the time.
The ministry’s letter further stated that dogs already placed as pets should be contracted to prevent breeding.

“There are many dog species, which are not under the motivated circular. They have also caused dog attacks, and for the reason, the rationalism in the context of the triggered circular is very arbitrary and should be excluded,” the petitioners said.
