A civil society organization, corporate accountability and public participation in Africa, Khaba, has strongly condemned the students of Nasarawa State University, Kefi and NSUs on a systematic demonstration.

The group demands that the affected students immediately re -establish and describe the oppression of student activities in Nigeria.

University officials have suspended students for an educational session, citing allegations of “criminal conspiracy, public disturbance and cyber intimidation.”

However, Kapa argues that their only crime is part of a WhatsApp group created to introduce the third semester, to consecrate and raise an additional N20,000 fee for an additional N20,000 fee for a lesson for “Gary-Over”. Selections.

Instead of addressing the students’ concerns, the university administration, led by Professor Sadadu Hasan Liman, is said to have sought surveillance and insistence.

According to Cappa, security activists infiltrated the WhatsApp group, monitored conversations, and then identified students targeted for disciplinary action.

Many affected students reported that they had been monitored and arrested on the premises, arrested, handcuffed, and had been chained to the police station before being taken to the police station.

Their phones are said to have been confiscated, and they bear the nights detained before they get bail. Despite the test, they eventually rushed in December 2024.

In a statement, Kapa described these measures inhumane and that it was blatantly violated by the fundamental rights of students for independent speech and peaceful assembly, which was guaranteed under section 39 and 40 of Nigeria’s Constitution in 1999.

“Kapa condemns these inhumane actions and the unhealthy rights of the students for independent speech and the peaceful legislature. As a revised in sections 39 and 40 of the Nigeria Constitution in 1999.”

“Unfortunately, repression in NSUK is part of a deep rot. The cancellation of the university’s last student union election further exposes its growing dictatorship culture.

“When the candidate of the administration is not favorable, the democratic process is simply rejected,” the report said.

The committee warned that such measures would become passive participants in a system that would prioritize business interests on quality education, aimed at reducing criticism and opposition to students.

“We are not aware that this deliberate oppression is to eliminate the undergraduate undergraduate graduates of critical consciousness, eliminate resistance to the increasing educational and shattered learning conditions for education, and eventually creating graduates with no zombies to the broad society – unable to question or challenge.

“But what is a society without critical thinkers? A country that suppresses independent thinking and investigation only develop compliance, will and decay, ”the report further says.

The organization demands the immediate and unconditional restructuring of all rusty students and calls for joint action to resist the growing commercialization of public education and the criminalization of the student arrangement.

“Kapa stands in full unity with all the affected students of the Nasarawa State University of Kefi, and praises them for the initiative to organize against exploitation policies.

“We invite all the stakeholders and trade unions in the field of education, along with civil society organizations, to speak against this injustice.

“We are demanding immediate and unconditional restoration of all the suspended students.

“We also urge a joint action to stop the growing commercialization of public education and the criminalization of the student organizing.
